August 05 survey
mentions divx support, but gives no option for anything other than WMV or divx. Frankly, I'd rather see generic support for any codec so I could use xvid or whatever else I wanted to. As nice as divx is, xvid is nicer. Not to mention faster at encoding.

Re: August 05 survey
STF, there have been multiple discussions about XviD, there can't be a commercial implementation of it by us because the licensing issues are a big problem with XviD, as in they have no commercial licensing and it's GPL.
Check out the XviD.Org website for more information

DonK - You're still missing the point. There's no *need* for Snapstream to license *anything*. You don't *need* to "implement" Xvid. It's already been done. All Snapstream needs to do is enable the users to encode using whatever codecs are installed on their systems. There's nothing technically challenging about this, I don't see why it would be a legal issue either. I can use BeyondMedia or BeyondTV to play any file in any format I have a codec for. This includes Xvid, already. It should be no different for ShowSqueeze (to act as a simple front end to the codec). With all due respect, I think you guys are trying to over-engineer ShowSqueeze. |
