My BTV system is multi-boot with Win 98se, 2KPro, 2KSBS, XPPro32, 2K3Svr32 & XPPro64. I would like to install BTV on 1 partition & be able to execute it from any other partition's OS that it will run under. However, the pointers to the necessary files (such as Jobs.xml) kept in the Docs&Sets of the partition BTV is installed on also seem to be hard-coded in that (installation) partition. If the executables AND/OR the "necessary files" could be installed where the user (me, in this case) selects, this might be doable.
Anybody have any ideas? My current setup is as follows: Partition C: contains both Win98se system and a minimal Win2kPro system. These OSs are used for troubleshooting, repair, diagnostics, backup & other maintenance. No BTV stuff here. These OSs and all others are booted via "boot.ini" in this (the only "active") partition. Partition G: contains common data & G:\program Files\ ... program executables used by other OSs. Partition H: contains Win2K SmallBizServer. Partition J: contains WinXP Pro x32. Partition K: contains Win2K Pro. Partition M: contains Win2K3 Server x32. Partition N: contains WinXP Pro x64. From H, J & K, I install BTV into G:\Program Files\SnapStream\ ... (yes, 3 times), so there is only 1 copy of the BTV executables on the system. This works just fine except that each OS keeps its own copy of the BTV operational data files in its own Docs&Sets folder. This means that I must update the recording schedule & settings for each OS when I switch between them (which I do frequently). I cannot just copy the D&S files from the previous OS when I switch because data in them references other D&S files in the partition they were originally installed on (see "Settings.xml" in the "Beyond TV" D&S folder). And there is no option during installation to place these files anywhere else, such as a place where they could be a common reference (such as G: in my case). I suspect that my problem cannot be patched around, but I seek & am willing to entertain suggestions as to how to do so. Besides path references in Settings.xml & Jobs.xml, I find only 4 path references to D&S\ ... \Beyond TV in each OS's registry. Do you know if there are others that are not obvious? ________________________ Asus A8V-Deluxe, Amd3500, 1.5gbDDR, nVidia GeF4 MX4000 Maxtor 4x160gb + 200gb + 4x250gb, 2xIomega DL DVD +/- Last edited by aesappjr; 07-25-2005 at 03:06 PM. |

Re: Multi-boot systems with BTV
You have to manually set up recordings for each OS . Each os has its own C:\program files . Maybe C:\program files XP . C:\program files 98 . That is a new one for me to try.
I have not tryed copyed the recordings.xml file to each os . You can make 1 partion for each OS. You need to research Multi OSing . It is not for newbies . It is nice to have all the worlds of OS's though . Windows is the most popular os for now . It comes with almost every computer .
