How often do you surf the web while watching TV?

How often do surf the web while watching TV?

(either:
- using a wireless laptop from the couch while Beyond TV runs on the big screen in your living room
- or on the desktop while running Beyond TV in windowed mode side by side with your browser)

I really wanted to voice a 'NEVER' option here. <25 % still implies that I'd find it useful sometime.

or... dual-monitor set-up.

TV set to primary, 17" LCD secondary. Have the lcd on a 16ft VGA cable so that it can be moved around the room... Also acts as a second tv during football season

Re: How often to you surf the web while watching TV?

I think my vote is never. I am usually browsing the web while I am watching tv via BTV, but never on the same box. My BTV/BM box is dedicated to watching TV/DVD/videos and I don't think I want to browse the web from there. I wouldn't mind being able to watch some of the flash(.swf) funnies that I have downloaded like my videos but for thing that use interaction I prefer to use my normal desktop box.

I know for me it is MUCH less than 25%. Now that my shows are happily recording, I could do my web stuff and later watch TV.

The wife and are frequently pausing a show to go to the IMDB or TV.COM to look up a personality we see in the current show.

I would see great value in BTV being able to look up a current episode and show me the web pages.

Well, I can see that being real useful. Maybe a new tab for shows being watched/already recorded that would look that up when you open the tab. I think i remember a pluging that added the IMDB raiting to recorded shows.

If BTV could hyper link the actors, directors, and show titles that would be a great start.

I know it's my old song, but if they handled caption data you could extract XDS data service from the caption stream that includes all kinds of bonus program information including hyperlinks.

(* on providers that include it at least)

Re: How often to you surf the web while watching TV?

If we are going to talk about XDS and one of my favorite feature requests has to be mentioned even though it is off topic. I had been asking ReplayTV for years to use the show title XDS info to extend recordings. If a show goes over its time slot, you should be able to read the XDS to know if it has gone over its slot and continue recording until the XDS indicates that the title has changed.

Re: How often to you surf the web while watching TV?

I used to use laptop while sitting on couch /TV. Now the laptop stays in office mostly. I can check /respond to web based exchange mail/ access any of my web based app's from the media server in the living room - **which is why SSL VPN's are soooo awesome** secure webbased computing for the masses w/o need for client sw (or msft .net framework?)

Posting now sitting on the couch 15 ft from the TV - which has served as the only display device for the for the media server since aboot late 2001. Since then - sometimes if TV is on it is fullscreened (especially if i'm just burnt) but then no matter what, 100% of the time I'm wanting to go to windowed and pull some app's and start working or gaming. So generally if BTV live /recorded /EPG is on it's usually windowed - with firefox browser + multiple programs running at same time. TV is so boring with so many ads I can never just sit and watch something on a TV screen unless we're actually watching an episode of something like sopranos /24 /amer idol (lol) or a DVD.

** it would be nice for btv (any app window) to quickly go windowed --> fullscreen / vise versa using preconfigured button on the ati or mce2 remote instead of mouse... I've not tried the firefly remote yet since i've got about 5 pc remotes already so maybe this is already a feature i'm not using. BTV is better /easier to use and responds quicker than MCE going fullsceen --> windowed, etc

Re: How often to you surf the web while watching TV?

Never. Internet has no business being on my living room TV. That's what the PC in the den is for. BTW I never, ever watch live TV. Only recorded shows - I don't even watch news live. I record the news and watch the recording so I can skip over commericals and other useless junk.
