I have SS on my Dell Computer and am considering getting ShowShifter as an alternative TV recording program as well as a platform for recording other video sources (VCR,LD DVD). Will both programs work independently on my CPU without corrupting the other or crashing the CPU? Can I use Titan TV for both programs and turn off SS when I am using ShowShifter (how)? Is it possible to use the IR Blaster which I got with the SS program to change channels on the ShowShifter program or do I need a separate IR Blaster and Com Port to avoid corrupting the channels the IR Blaster learned by using the SS utility? Is this worth the effort, will Showshifter record a better or lesser quality TV show?
Thanks, thor |

Thanks to all of you who mentioned this ShowShifter program. I didn't even know that it existed and now I have it running and it is crystal clear and much better than the ATI TV Viewer that came with my TV Wonder VE.
I think I'll stil record with SnapStream but I hope Quartz comes out soon, because I love the integrated TV viewing and recording capabilities of this... |

Has anyone tried two different cards in the one machine - and running SnapStream and ShowShifter at the one time?
You could use one card and SnapStream for the web interface and streaming - and ShowShifter for local use! Just an idea... |

Won;t work if they both use WDM drivers. If you have one recording then the overlay surface is used by one and the other can't use it. Well Snapstream can't use it. Try having Media Player running with a movie or clip and have snapstream try to record something. Instant failure. Try to have something playing in media Player and start your TV Player. It goes into low performance mode. Something with the overlay surface.
I can say that a Creative Labs Digital VCR can record the two at the same time no problem. But you have to use the software tht came with the creative board since it has proprietary drivers.

Hi PBMax,
I thought it was possible to be recording something, and using media player to playback something. I seem to recall having tested this. Guess I should try again.... Scott... |

You can do that. In that order though. If you are watching something and a recording starts, it will be lost. Something about a DirectShow Preview frame. Don't know why since you can do it the other way around.
