Why Is playback so dark?

I recorded a sample using snap demo version to try it out. I then installed the 20 meg wmv file on to my Ipaq 3835 and tried playing it thru windows media player 8.0.
Its so dark you can barely see anything, and very choppy.
Is this what the picture will look like using the full vesion? or Is the full version include some type of diff encoding?
I hope its better than this. thanks

I assume you are using an ATI card to capture the video.

It's dark. It sucks. There's no real solution that I've seen, as for the most part all "Dark Video" threads go unanswered by support.

I don't think this is totally related to using the ATI capture card. I have a Hauppauge PCI card and I experience the same problem.

At normal settings the playback is so dark, I can barely see it even in complete darkness. If I increase the brightness, then indoor scenes look ok. But outdoor scenes are totally washed out.

Anybody with a Hauppauge card find a solution to this or experience the same problem?

I am using a Compaq Ipaq 3835 for playback.

Try amcap included in this .zip file and set your capture filter gamma to auto.

Rob,

Thanks for the suggestion, but the Gamma setting along with Sharpness, White Balance and Backlight Comp. are disabled.

Is there a way to enable these settings or is there no way to update these for a Hauppauge PCI board?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if you can enable them, I use the generic WDM drivers from that page on my cards and they work fine with Amcap to fix any settings.

BTW, I'm not sure I would characterize those drivers as just GENERIC. They work REALLY well and can be used to fix many issues with just about any bt848/878 type card. Here is the root URL:

Thanks for the info.

I will give those drivers a try when I am home this weekend.

By the way, do you use those drivers with WinXP and Hauppauge WinTV PCI cards.
