Hauppauge 250 vs 250mce?

I have a 250pvr in my machine and am thinking of adding another tuner card - my question: what is the difference between the 250 & 250mce?
For that matter, what's the diff between the 150 & 250?
I know the 350 has an fm tuner and, I believe, a h/w decoder on board.
The 500 is simply 2 250pvrs together, right?
I've looked thru the hauppauge website without finding a clear definition of the different product features.

Re: Hauppauge 250 vs 250mce?

Typically the MCE versions do NOT include mpeg2 decoder software or a remote.

The 500 is two 150s on the same board. They even use the same drivers. To be honest, I don't know what the difference between teh 150 and the 250 is. A remote maybe.

The 150 is newer. Anyway, one thing to remember is the MCE versions are usually quite bare compared to the non-MCE versions. Little to no documentation, almost zero included software since the idea is you'll be using it with Windows XP MCE so you won't need it.

Re: Hauppauge 250 vs 250mce?

I just picked up a pair of PVR-150 MCEs. The MCE models have the usual S-Video and such in, but also two RF inputs. One for CATV and the other for FM Radio. (it comes with an indoor twin lead FM radio antenna)

Note .. there is NO IR support or connections of any kind. No blaster port and no input IR port for remote control.

Also note: if you already have a PVR that does have IR support, if you add the non-IR PVR-150 MCE (or any other Hauppauge PVR without any IR) then you may have trouble getting "any" IR remote to work. Very few people have had success getting a PVR-250 and a PVR-150 to work with the PVR-250s remote.

Seems that Windows sees the 150 without any remote hardware and gives up loading any IR remote programs. Even though you DO have another PVR with IR in the system. If you have an RF remote there is no problem.

I'm going to be buying a second tuner card soon and also have the PVR 250. I'm getting the firefly remote so i won't be using the IR remote. Does anyone have a setup with a mixed PVR 250 and PVR 150? I think i would go for the 150 if it works well with the 250 since it is newer.

I have a mix of 150/250s on both of my PVRs and they work fine.

Re: Hauppauge 250 vs 250mce?

It is my understanding that the PVR 250 is the first one after PVR. I've seen pictures of this card that it has a heat sink on it. As the card is older, I guess that it has another mpeg2 encoder than the Conexant 416 in PVR150/500. I've heard people say this aswell.

On the other hand, PVR250MCE seems to be a card of the new series. I recently purchased one and this one is with the same Conexant 416 encoder as the other newer PVR cards (150/500). Also this one does not have a heat sink.
