I am only changing channels. SS has actually locked out the firewire capture drivers ("this device is not currently selectable"), so it would take a real trick to get content captured.

As for your Link box, you'll be fine with v4 - my ancient Dell handles Link without issue. Note that we do NO recording of HD content yet.

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

Can this plugin be used to control a Cable Box such as the SciAtl 4200 via the USB port on the back? I know the port accepts input from a USB Keyboard, how about from this plugin?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I followed the steps outlined here on installing this.

I can change channels through the command line, but when I go to update the registry, the entire timmmoore directory simply does not exist!

Any idea what I missed?

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

Hi,
I am using a SA8300 on Rogers in canada. I am trying to set up my system to connect to the STB using firewire. however Rogers has blocked the 1394 ports. Is there any ways i can go arround this.

Heres what Im trying to do. Baisically use the live TV and wach tv that will be streaming over the internet. I want to have the ability to change channels. So I was thinking of buying hte TV tunner with the IR blaster from snapstream. but I am not sure if the channel changing would be reliable . I would really appreciate it if some one is able to help me get the firewire working.

Thanks.

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

If the firewire port is turned off than the only way you have to control the cable box is with IR.

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

I'm trying to set this up with one capture card and 2 tuners in btv.

Tuner1 Cable box1 coax in Card tuner My blaster
Tuner2 Cable box2 s-vid in Moto tuner

I mucked around with it today but no luck. Tried deleteing both and starting over but the moto tuner kept showing up.

Any idea on a proceedure for install?

Can change channels fine with the moto tuner over firewire in btv.

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

I'm not sure I follow what problem you're having. The 6200 will show up in the tuners list, but will not work in BTV. Just don't select it as a tuner and you'll be fine.

Remember, this plugin is for changing channels only.

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

Yeah I get that part, What I want to do is have btv use my regular cable box being controled via myblaster unless I ask for a channel not in that line up. Meaning the hd channels that are not available thru the regular cable box??

Essentially one capture card with 2 tuners available to it.

This is what Bob refered to earlier. ERR shs

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

This plugin works great with a SA4200HD on the firewire port. I installed it today. Followed the prescribed instructions and all worked well.

By the way, if the cable box is off for whatever reason and you have it set to turn on via the power button or numerics, this method works. It turns on the box then changes the channel.

Many thanks to Tim for channel.dll and jdiff for the step-by-step instructions.

Re: Control Cable Box from Firewire

I'm going to make an attempt to use firewire to change the channels on my dct 6200 ... I bought a Hauppauge PVR150 that came with Beyond TV, a Hauppauge Remote, and the Hauppauge IR Blaster ... but ... the IR Blaster isn't compatible with my dct 6200 stb. I'm not sure wether or not the firewire ports on my 6200 are enabled .. is there an easy way to check this before I install a firewire card in the pc and start installing software?

Thanks
