Re: ManiaTV

If only they didn't try and plug it with sh*t, f*ck and such buzz words for the 'younger, hip generation' they might get taken seriously.

24/7 crap . Worked for cable I guess.

(hmm.a first time poster plugging maniatv ... )

Yeah, I've been a BTV user for over a year but never had the need to do much on the boards. I bought Beyond Media late last year and I saw some promise. Their spotlight is interesting but not much usefulness there. I thought the movie rental ones would be good to try but the rental fee is the same as actually getting the high quality vid from the video store.

Something like ManiaTV doing original shows could be a good boost for it (I have a dedicated Beyond Media/TV box hooked up to my livingroom tv).

As for the sh*t and dude type stuff.... yeah, I said this might be the START of other Internet TV companies. I think this station is geared towards the college student market. But the bar has be to be set for Internet TV so why not this? Because upto now it's been public access type crap that is found on the Net. I'll take Original programming of any sort right now if it gets the ball rolling.

We'll see but I thought it interesting to "what if", so I shared.

Re: ManiaTV

A station dedicated to playing music videos....THAT IS COOL. If only they had come around in the 80's. Then they could have taken the MTV name instead of that reality/news junk station that has the name. How DO they justify the MTV name?

How are you guys integrating it into BTV/BM? It won't work like a playlist because those only show up in the Music section and just play audio. That is another shame, because I have WMP10 setting my the videos I have saved to a playlist and BM just doesn't handle the video.

<Edit> I just tried adding .asx a a visible video file per THIS THREAD. Unfortunatly, BM says "Unable to play selected file" </Edit>

I didn't even try to integrate it myself(I figure that's up to snapstream). Currently, I use my firefly remote and launch IE within Beyond Media and then I go mouse mode and select a bookmark to the site. If someone can find a better way to do this please share. I wonder what it would take to get it added to the "Spotlight" area of Beyond Media?

Re: ManiaTV

They problem is that they don't play it via a webpage. It opens in Windows Media. I guess it wouldn't that big of a deal to figure out how to embed their .asx file within a HTLM doc, then add that to the menu.

I will give that a try...in my "free time"

Re: ManiaTV

Well, embeding it into an HTML was not a problem. (See CODE for HTML below) Getting it to show up in BM was easy. I just dropped the html file into the drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Beyond Media\Shortcuts directory.

The problem is now how to get IE with Service Pack 2 to load activeX controls without complaining about security. I have changed all the security settings I can think of, and it still complains wanting conformation twice before it will open it.

Code:
<html>
<head><title>ManiaTV</title></head>

<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#C0C0C0" style="margin:0px;" scroll="auto" align="center">
<center>

<EMBED ID="MediaPlayer" NAME="MediaPlayer"
  classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95"
  TYPE="application/x-mplayer2"
  SRC="http://maniatv.com/liveStream.asx"
  WIDTH="784" HEIGHT="588"
  AutoStart="1"
  AutoSize="0"
  ShowControls="0"
  ShowTracker="0"
  ShowDisplay="0"
  ShowStatusBar="0"
  EnableContextMenu="0"
  AnimationAtStart="0"
  TransparentAtStart="0">

</body>
</html>
I currently keep my screen resolution at 800x600 so I set the ManiaTV window to be 784x588 that makes it as big as possible without having any scroll bars on the window. You may change that for your setup.

Re: ManiaTV

Or a different maybe better way. I just setup up a shortcut to:

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe" /fullscreen "http://maniatv.com/liveStream.asx"
This will open the asx in the more streamlined version of WMP (What used to be called 6.4 and is still included with XP) fullscreen.

I then set up my IR to pass Alt-F4 for escape when this program is running, and Play, escape, I am back to BM.

Re: ManiaTV

Sorry for posting things without completely trying them. Evidently, mplayer2 will not accept ALT-F4 Commands when in fullscreen mode. You have to hit ESC first then ALT-F4.

Another option is to use the full windows media player:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"  /fullscreen "http://maniatv.com/liveStream.asx"
It doesn't completely like Alt-F4 from fullscreen either, but it at least comes out of fullscreen when you hit ALT-F4, then you hit ALT-F4 again, and you are back to Beyond Media.
