Question SnapStream Medusa setup

Hi,

I am curious as to where Snapstream got the pricing for the Medusa system. I am trying to build something similar but I cannot figure out how they where able to to purchase 6 PVR-250BTV for $539.94. That would mean around $89.99 each but I cannot find that price anywhere on the SnapStream site. Even the low end PVR-150 is priced more than $89.99.

Here is the Price info from Medusa Link: http://www.snapstream.com/Community/...sa/default.asp

1 White Box PC (P4 2.4, 512mb, 40gb, Win XP Home) approx. $600
6 Hauppauge PVR-250BTV $539.94
1 Beyond TV 3.5 (Server) $69.99
4 Multi Tuner Licenses (Free with card purchase) $0.00

Approx. total: $1209.93

Thanks
Ben

Re: SnapStream Medusa setup

Snapstream used to sell the 250BTV's for $89.99. It was like the 250MCE except built specifically for Snapstream, and required Snapstream only drivers.

My bet is that with the introduction of the 150's, they stopped dealing with the 250BTV for the generally available 150's. They are only $10 more.

Re: SnapStream Medusa setup

You can get close to that price with the PVR-500 Dual Tuner Models. I just got one from Amazon for $140.99 with 2 Tuner Licenses @ $19.99 that comes to $180.98. There cost is $89.99 for one, so you can almost get to there figures with the PVR-500.

Thanks
Mike

Also I think Buy.com has them for around $137 if I remember correctly.

Re: SnapStream Medusa setup

Whats more you can hypotetically go all the way up to 12 channels using the PVR500s on the same chassis... Given smaller number of PCI slots in most new mobo I think PVR500 makes a lot of sense. In addition you are not getting receiver x remote control + IR receiver / blaster contraptions which you would have no use if using say FireFly + USB-UIRT etc (assuming you will use multi-channel support in BTV you will need to use USB-UIRT).
