Thoughts on Avermedia?

How do you guys feel about the Avermedia capture cards? Specifically the UltraTV MULTR1500? I currently have a pvr150 a hauppauge usb2 card in my system, but I can get the Avermedia basically for nothing (long story), so would it work and play well with the 2 I have already? And, how does the quality stack up to the hauppage cards?

Also, my system is a sempron2200 with 512MB of RAM and just one 80GB drive. So, could I even make good use of a 3rd card?

I can't speak to the particular card you mention, as it's not listed on either the compatible or uncompatible lists for BTV 3.5. My Avermedia M150 has worked flawlessly for about 6 months now though, for what that's worth..

Thanks for the input.

For any who are interested, here is the link to the card's product info, for what its worth they list BTV as a supported app... Also, is it even feasible to have 3 tuners working off of only one hard drive?

Yes. Snapstream's "Medusa" test configuration used 6 tuners with a single 5400rpm disk:

Re: Thoughts on Avermedia?

Hmm, any info about this Avermedia "exclusive" deinterlacer or V-Sharp as the link states? I'm not too impressed by the picture quality of my Hauppauge when compared to my other card (a Compro VideoMate Plus Gold, albeit a software encoding card). Ideally, does anyone have both or have any other information? Might be a bit of a long shot...

Not sure if Avermedia just puts that down as a marketing gimmick or not, but if it had that added bonus, I might be in for purchasing one.

Re: Thoughts on Avermedia?

I have the PVR 550 model. The card does not do what the manual says it can do, the sound is horrible, and the tech support sucks. Here are other examples on the net:
