purchasing a USB UIRT from Canada

Awhile ago I asked snapstream support about purchasing a USB UIRT in Canada - here is my question:

"1. I live in Canada. Whenever I send anything via UPS ground
shipping, us Canadians get totally screwed at the border. For
example, if I were to order $100 worth of gear from you and you ship
it to me via UPS ground shipping, I can expect about $55CDN in
"brokerage fees" and the like. For some odd reason these are not
applied when you do air shipping over the border. Shipping via USPS
doesn't screw us Canadians (nor do most carriers - UPS is the worst
offender here).

Anyway, I see you only have one "international" shipping option.
Would I be able to order something and have it shipped via UPS air, or
something other than UPS?"

here was the answer:

"1. The web site there is an option that will allow you to ship next day air. You can choose that if you like and there probably won't be any issues. Unfortunately we have no control over the brokerage fees that are charged to you. This is something that is strictly handled by the government."

and I replied:

"Thanks for the answer on #1. I had previously thought that the air shipping was only for destinations in the US (since there is a seperate "International" shipping option."

So, when I went to purchase the thing, the yahoo store didn't allow me to ship the thing using anything other than "international" - which I assume is still UPS. Since snapstream support doesn't seem to know, has anyone shipped anything to Canada from the Snapstream online store? If so, I have two questions:

1. Did they ship using UPS ground (and did you get hit with a big brokerage fee)?

2. Is there another source for USB UIRT devices on the internet that is more accessable to international customers?

Hey, they will ship USPS if you ask them; here is an answer I got in an e-mail from them on Nov 18, 2004:

The fee via UPS to canada is normally $35.

I've been in talks with Jon (USB-UIRT guy) about setting up a drop ship point here in Canada to avoid the lengthly delays/fees
