Question Getting rid of that 3.5... Drive!

Anyone know a good site or easy tool that will let me install all the drivers I need to my XP installation CD so I don't have to use the 3.5 drive ever again when doing a clean install???

Re: Getting rid of that 3.5... Drive!

What drivers are you getting off of a 3.5 disk ? I don't have a 3.5 in any of my computers, and can't even remember the last time (if ever) that XP even asked for the original CD when I update drivers. If you have to have it, and want to free the space for a hard drive, you can get USB 3.5s that you can connect when you need it.

Raid Drivers For SATA and IDE Raid controllers.

Re: Getting rid of that 3.5... Drive!

check out nlite (http://nuhi.msfn.org/nlite.html ) a gui for slipstreaming and install cd authoring. I used it to make an easy sp2 slipstream. It has lots of extra options like eliminating unneccesary components, adding drivers, etc.. I didn't try the driver feature but it sounds like it will do what you want.

Good luck,
-dt

Can you just copy those drivers to a CD instead ? I usually have a second hard drive with all of my drivers and software and install those devices and drivers after the initial install of XP. For the initial install, I keep it simple (just a video card, regular keyboard/mouse, and a cd drive). Then I add all of the motherboard drivers and then add one device at a time.

Re: Getting rid of that 3.5... Drive!

Nope.. you need to edit a bunch a files so windows knows to load them and where to find them. I tried it twice and failed... just to much crap to hunt down and change. You can't just put a folder on the CD because windows wants to search the floppy drive only when installing raid drivers.

dtruwme...

This looks VERY promissing! Thanks!
