What is HDMI? And does it work?

Hey folks,

Although this question might be better suited for AVSForums, I figure I would give it a shoot here first.

What the heck is HDMI? And is anyone using this connection with a graphics card, perferable a NVIDIA Card?

I am thinking of buying a new television, and I want to play games on it as well. I *think* a DVI to HDMI connection would be the ultiimate crisp image. Is this good logic?

Thanks,
-Brett

Re: What is HDMI? And does it work?

I use HDMI (high definition multi-media interface) from panasonic HD-S97 DVD to my plasms TV It upscales to 1080i and is the only HiDef connection other than DVI/VGA. I also use DVIVGA from my BTV Pc to the plasma. Best possible conections that I know of

Re: What is HDMI? And does it work?

From my understanding, HDMI is DVI-D with Digital Audio in the connector. DVI-D did not have audio only video. Since most people put the digital audio to their amp, it doesn't much matter. Use the converter cables.

P.S. DVI has 2 types -D and -A. -D is pure digital signal where -A is like the VGA analog signal. HDMI is digital video so make sure your vid card outputs DVI-D.
