Formatting video to burn on DVD

Can anyone help me out here,.....I recently purchased the device that enables me to view TV on my computer. My goal is to transfer my old VHS tapes into DVDs. Can someone help me out on the best way to format these video files. My first trial was unsuccessful,....it said it was going to take over 150 hours to complete the task. My computer has 128 GB free of 149 GB. I am using Nero 6 as the software for burning.
I have burnt hundreds of CDs but never any DVDs. If someone could help me out -- that would be GREAT.
Thanks.

What is your tuner/capture card?

Are you runing BTV? Look at the default qualities. At least two of them should be DVD-streams, meaning that Nero shouldn't have to turn the file into one, meaning burning the DVD won't take long. Look at the settings for those qualities, and try to find something matching in the capture card software. Some 352x480 quality probably will do the job for you.

Re: Formatting video to burn on DVD

If you do a search for DVD authoring you will find a ton of info.

The best guide, in my opinion, is located at:

http://home.woh.rr.com/weezul/dvd.html

This guide will walk you thru using the TMPGEnc DVD Author program. What's nice about this program is that if you use BTV's default DVD ready recording qualities the video does not have to be re-encoded when the DVD is created. Creating the BTV DVD is almost as quick as your DVD burner can make a DVD.

Wow, they still have that up? That page is where my old account at roadrunner cable in western ohio, before I moved here to Houston to work at Snapstream.

Thanks for the thumbs up on my guide though. I really need to update and expand that.
