What kind of tuner is PVR-250?

I've had my PVR-250 tuner working pretty snappy with BTV and my digital cable. I started wondering, is the tuner in the 250 a digital cable tuner and an analog cable tuner?

... wish I could get higher than channel 125.

It is just an analog cable tuner. To get channels over 125 you need a digital cable set top box. You then can either set BTV to lock the tuner of the PVR250 to channel 3 or 4 or you can use the composite or Svideo inputs. Most here use the svideo out into the PVR250 for the best picture quality.
