Given that SnapStream sells a bundle with the Hauppauge card, I'd suspect that would be their recommendation. SnapStream relies on cooperation from the hardware manufacturers to properly support their cards. From what I have seen, they seem to have a very good relationship with Hauppauge, and a poor relationship with ATI.
In terms of quality, you probably won't get much feedback from users becuase it is so subjective. I doubt that many of us have every used more than one or two different capture cards, so it isn't fair to comment on the quality. Personally I started using SnapStream with a 3dfx capture card. My experiences there weren't good, and the problems were all hardware related. I then went backward to a Hauppauge PCI card that was a year or two older than the 3dfx, and it's been running great ever since. |

Win XP with an NVidia based video card...
Well, all I can tell you is my experience: I had XP, tnt2-32mb, ati-tv wonder card. Using the current drivers for the nvidia card breaks the ati card. according to ATI, it is due to the way that NVidia handles overlays. Other problem -- ATI's tech support is great, if you can get them on phone. Not only is it a toll call to canada, but you have to sit and hit redial for hours at a time to get through, just to sit on hold for 20min. BIG PAIN. I will never again buy an ATI product. Just FYI... to fix the problem I picked up an ATI Radeon 7500 VE. Now, the tv card works well. BUT - the damn video card locks my Viewsonic PT813 21" monitor in at 60hz at all resolutions. (the monitor will do 75hz in 16x12) ATI told me it is b/c monitor does not support DDC information. It does (I know it, Viewsonic confirmed it). SO-- stay away from ATI! |
