Multiple Tuner Cards Question

Like everyone, I am really looking forward to the dual tuner ability in 3.5.

I have a three tv tuner cards at my disposal, two hauppauge 250's and an asus 880. I'm hoping I'll be able to use the two hauppauge cards in my snapstream box just because they're better cards. Am I thinking down the right track here or are two identical cards going to cause problems? Anybody have any info on this subject yet?

Forgive me if this has been discussed five thousand times already - a quick search on it got me nothing good. Thanks in advance for helping the new guy.

Re: Multiple Tuner Cards Question

It shouldn't cause any problems, but I would suggest you install one card, set up your lineup/inputs for it, then install the second card, and set that one up, to avoid confusion.

Are you using just analog cable or cable boxes? If you're just using analog cable on both, then install both at the same time and you'll be fine. Otherwise you may run into the situation where I am in, with different boxes and different tuner devices (serial vs usb, and one uses coax vs the other using RCA).

It can get confusing.

Re: Multiple Tuner Cards Question

Yeah, one will be analog cable, the other will be running through a mororola 2500. I will try setting up the dct first, then the analog on the second card. Thanks for the advice!

Anyone else with thoughts on this - more information can only save me time and heartache.

Re: Multiple Tuner Cards Question

I'm using two identical pvr250 cards. There used to be a problem with different revisions of the card but the new drivers fixed that issue (3.5 forces you to use the new drivers). I use just one lineup and both come in via s-vid from 2 seperate sat boxes so my setup is fairly straightforward. But there are others with more then one lineup so what you want to do should not be a problem.

It was confusing trying to remember what card did what when I set mine up. I'd suggest setting up one up first. Renameing it in your setup and then settting up the other.

I did them both at once and then renamed them, then renamed them again to get it right.

Re: Multiple Tuner Cards Question

Sounds like it will be maybe a little simpler to just get a second digital cable box, which is what I'll do.

There's no substitute for experience. Thank you guys.

What's the new drivers (1.8A from the Hauppauge site)? Where can I find them?

Re: Multiple Tuner Cards Question

I never had the problem as Mine are both say encoder-16 on them. When I installed RC1 it wanted me to put newer drivers in and directed me to a page on the snapsteam domain. So I got them from here and they are
dated 9/10/2004 version 1.18.21.22254.

The ones I was refering to the first fixed the version issues were beta drivers and there was a link posted somewhere on the forums about it.

I think the ones provided by snapstrean however are even newer. Someone with 2 cards of different revisions will have to answer what exactly is needed.

I'll PM you.

Re: Multiple Tuner Cards Question

Okay, a follow up to the initial question...

Possible to connect 2 dct2000's up via serial? Will 3.5 handle this without error? Has anyone tried this, or does anyone have concrete experience with this?

Again, you guys are great to help. This is a good community. Thanks.
