Plextor MPEG-4 and Divx Hardware PVR Encoder

Plextor just announced a capture device that will allow users to record in Divx, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, and mpeg-4.

Looks like Sage will be will be supporting this device in a few weeks. It'd be interesting to see if Snapstream is planning on supporting this too.

really trying to limit the number of USB devices that i have on my system.... already got a firefly, and soon a IR blaster..... would have to add a USB hub, just to get this device on the back of my unit.... and it looks like it requires a power supply!

Re: Plextor MPEG-4 and Divx Hardware PVR Encoder

This news certainly changes the PVR scene in my eyes. Mpeg4 is definately the way of the future. It is verdisappointing that snapstream lost all interest in it. It seems to me that they could be supporting much more hardware than they choose to.

The are already other PVR software out that offers support of this device aswell, at least the non tuner version.

The only thing this is missing is a blaster port. I can't believe everyones ignoring the blasters. It seems like we should be able to buy something to control our
STBs for like 10 bucks. If this plextor had that, it would be the ultimate pvr unit.

It sounds like that might be using the WinDVR software to me.

I wish Mpeg4 was the PVR future, but I am not sure. WMV seems a much stronger candidate with obviously full MS support and hardware WMV encoding on it's way.

Snapstream have been on the ball as far as dev options and have make solid choices for the current BTV iteration.... I'm sure they've thought about the upcoming months and years for the future iterations.
