Well for one thing if your not already, try using Overlay mode rather than 3d accelerated.
Other than that I would suggest playing around with some 3d party decoders: http://www.snapstream.com/Community/Articles/decoders/

Did you change your default recording quality?
See Picture Quality & Differences Between BTV & Sage for info. By default BTV comes with not so great qualities, so that they work for everybody. Eric
