The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

Now that 24 is over I want to move the whole season to DVD. The problem is that I suffer from a rare affliction called... piger pigra pigrum.

What software or freeware is out there that will take my MPEG DVD stream files right to a DVD so it will work in a standard DVD player? Something quick and not requiring 5 different programs.... thats just a pain in the ass. I am looking for something where I would click the file... maybe give the title and then click "Make DVD".

Sonic MyDVD is a one program approach. It's free if you have a Sony DVD writer.

I don't care if it is free or not. I am willing to pay for the software if it makes the whole process easier.

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

Ulead DVD MovieFactory is an easy program to use. I was able to create decent looking DVD's on the first try, and, as SHS says, it's included with your PVR250. I downloaded a demo of version 3, it's slick. You can create animated menus with short clips of the shows on the DVD. I may lay out the 60 bucks for it (I believe that's the price to upgrade).

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

I second the TmpgEnc DVD Author choice. You can edit commercials and burn to disk all at once. One caveat...the editor is not frame accurate, meaning you have to cut on I-frames, and sometimes the beginning of a commercial does not coincide with an I-Frame. DVD Lab is my authoring program of choice now, after I edit with VideoReDo. If you have $50.00 to spend on an editor, I believe VideoReDo to be the best frame accurate, non re-encoding editor available. Perfect A/V Sync everytime.

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

I will check out some of these programs. Thanks!
Isn't there a demo version for TmpgEnc DVD?

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

TMPGEnc DVD Author

GREAT Program!

Now only if the cutting could be done with the smart chapter info and then also used through the archive command and this would just kick butt!

Thanks for the tip! Once the trial runs out I will most likely buy the software.

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

VideoReDo can cut BTV smart chapters automatically, but it's been my experience that commercials are frequently missed by smart chapter...especially if they are really tight. Still...an hour long program can me edited in 3-5 minutes on either VideoReDo or DVD Author.

Berg hit the nail on the head about TMPGEnc DVD Author. If you're going to buy one program, that's the one to buy (I wish it fit a bit better in an 800x600 screen, though!).

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

I was able to get all of the second half of 24 onto DVD in a few hours. Great UI in Autor. This will be my program of choice. Thanks again!!

Re: The easiest quickest way to get recordings to DVDs

I like NeroVision Express 2 myself. It's an all-in-one program that is simple to cut commercials, add titles, smart-chapters, etc. If you use Nero, it's a no-brainer (since you can download it for free). It even has the label maker and cover designer built in, and will automatically shrink your vid files to fit if necessary. So talk about an all-in-one!!

You can download the 30 day demo for free at www.nero.com
