I just thought I would post this here. I is really of little interest right now, but ...
This company is offering a modification (err, a very expensive modification) to common HDTV satellite STB that allow the stream from an HDTV broadcast to be recorded. From my very quick look, it appears that they modify the STB to extract the program stream and send it out of the box over a firewire connection.

From my quick read, the signal coming out of the STB over the firewire connection must then be processed by a computer before it can be recorded.
They seem to refer to recording on a DVHS deck, but do make a short mention about recording on a computer.
This is not really of much interest right now, but I can see a day where BTV would be able to record a 16:9 HDTV stream, from a firewire connection (which has been mentioned several time before).
As with any such technology, I am sure in six months/one year, several other options will exist for such a modification, at a much lower price.
I would certainly consider this down the road if BTV supported that type of capture and if the price point was more reasonable.
Anyhow, I thought I would share the info with my fellow geeks
