couple of quartz questions (or more like ideas I want to put out there)

If you have configured it to use an IR Blaster, and you use the channel changer button in the Live TV app - that channel change request should be routed through to the IR Blaster! This would mean updating your Blaster software, allowing it to record Channel Up and Channel Down signals as well.

Also, what's going to happen if I record a 2 hour movie that won't fit onto one CD? Will it be split in some clever way? (burning to DVD would perhaps solve this - and should at least be supported)

That's my two cents worth!

We are looking at getting the IR blaster up and down channel funtions to work for Quartz.

As far as burning a 2 hour show to CD you would need to edit the show into 2 files (depending on the quality you recorded the show at). 650MB is going to be the max you will be able to record then burn them. We are looking at burning to DVD but this heavly licenced.

The .NET services for Quartz look somewhat interesting, but what if users don't want them? Will Snapstream be dropping support for the existing listings, and the web based scheduling of recordings?

The reason I ask is that I've seen situations like this before where companies start a new subscription service or a new "premium" feature for their software and even though they still support the old service, the answer to reported problems needing bug fixes rather quickly becomes "We've fixed that in the .NET version - you should subscribe, and you'll be able to use that".

I actually quite like the software now that I've gotten it installed and working well. My only wishes for it at the moment are:

1)Allow use of higher quality through hardware enhanced encoding on cards that support it (Radeon or similar - Miro?)

2) Write a new player or shell for Windows Media Player with a better set of controls and options for skipping back and forth through media, hot keys, etc. Make it controllable via an infrared interface (I have a Hauppage card with an IR remote in the same computer). Right now I need a full keyboard and thumb mouse connected via extension cable to my "player" computer next to my TV to control playback, and fast forwarding through commercials is a major pain in the rear.

on whether or not we will continue to support TitanTV in subsequent versions of SnapStream PVS:

exactly how TitanTV will factor into the next version of SnapStream PVS has not been determined. we will, however, continue to offer some basic level of TV listings at no charge to consumers.

A better player:

You should really like this. It's great for skippin' thru commercials (you can map the fastforward/reverse to the mouse wheel)

Thanks for the reply, Patrick. (have you taken up amit's old job??)

Good news about Channel Up and Dn being supported by IRBlasters - but I mean when watching Live TV, not recording.

Shame about not being able to record a show bigger than 650MB and then burn to CD. Editing is such a pain. How about an option to record in 650/700MB chunks - when you record more, a new chunk (file) is started.

This is what companies used to do to get around the 2GB file size limitation.

srigby,

yes i am taking over tech support. However, I am still learning things. Amit helps me with some of the more in-depth questions.

As far as the requests for recording in 650MB chuncks i can pass it on to the developers.

The channel change up and down I am unsure right now about it i'll get back to you on this later today.
