newbie question

Hey

I am considering buying ss - but have a couple of questions. I have looked around but am still confused. I primarily want to use ss for streaming live TV:

1. Can i stream with the 250-board?
2. Is it possible to use the program guide (i live in Denmark)?
3. Which remote is the best to use? - with the longest range.
4. Can I use a pocketpc to remote control ss via WLAN? (so that I do not need a remote).

Hope you can help me out

Iandyr

(1) No streaming LiveTV across the internet with 250. However prerecorded shows that are automatically transcoded will do just fine. 3.5 will allow for clients so you can stream LiveTV across your homeLAN with the 250.

(2) Yes Program Guide Data is likely available you need to research xmltv.

(3) Snapstream will soon be saling the FireFly remote, its a great remote.

(4) In theory yes, a open API will be available with 3.5, and I suspect someone outside of Snapstream will create an application just for this reason.

Hope that helps,
Brett

Thanks for the quick answer!

Shame about the streaming.

I am planning on using the TV-out on my card and "clone" my PC screen to the TV. I guess I may need the ability to stream?

You would only need to ability to stream LiveTV if you plan on having more than one computer and want once to function as a server and another to function as a client. If its only a single computer then you are not streaming anything.
