Tv out with GeForce5200

OKay, the book they ship with the card is just about useless, and I can't seem to get this to work. I haven't even installed btv yet, I'm still trying to get the basics down first. The WinTV2000 applications seems to work, it shows whatever is playing on the satellite on the computer (can't change channels though, guess that's what btv will be responsible for doing.) Anyway, I've used the tv-out (used the converter bit to make it into an RCA plug) and then hooked that up to my tv. I thought that was all there was to it, but I must be missing something. How do you tell the video card what display to use? I tried unplugging my monitor to see if the problem was just having both connected at the same time, but that didn't change anything.

I know it's a pretty popular card, can anyone else who's gone through this to get tv-out let me know what I'm missing? Thanks.

(I have a feeling it's going to be a loooong day)

right click desktop -> properties -> settings -> advanced -> nvidia tab then look in there for "nView display mode" and set the mode to clone and then right click on device 2 and select properties -> select tv format and make sure connection is set to composite rather than auto/svideo. hit ok/apply a few times and you should see a mirror image of the computer on the tv.

Hey, thanks! I looked those menus over several times, but nothing was clicking. (One of those days). But I'll check after I ask, but is the WinTV remote supposed to show up once you do that on the television? Because my desktop shows up on the tv with the WinTV window, but nothing playing on it.

okay, I figured it out. Had to set it from analog+tv to tv+analog. I'm going to be using a/v cables into the line out of the sound card, because nothing I have uses spdif. Can anyone else who has this type of setup tell me how the sound is?

If there is only a TV connected, what should the refresh rate be?

if only the tv is connected the drivers will override refresh for whatever is the default for your tv system (60 for ntsc 50 for pal)

if you have the system set for clone you should see the tv image on both the monitor and the tv set.

for geforce 2mx and above if you are only doing a tv set you dont need to do the above because it will automatically boot to the svideo connector if there is no monitor, however it may show up in black and white until you change it to composite output if using an adapter.
