serial ata -> ide device, is this possible?

Short of me having to buy an additional controller card and occupy another one of my limited 3 pci slots is there a way to take an SATA controller (which is builtin on my motherboard) and use it with an older ATA device (either CDDrive or Harddrive?) if not is there such things as SATA DVD drives I have not seen one yet?

Gotta run,
-Brett

As I understand it, optical sata devices don't exist yet, but will start to become available when sata is enhanced, i.e. permit multiple drives to be attached to one port on the mobo, in a bus more like scsi works (this is likely to require a new type sata interface/ controller to support this though I expect).

I doubt whether you can do what you want though (of course pluging sata disc drive into a pata interface is possible).

I could, of course, be wrong, so somebody correct me (as you probably will anyway).

So its the other way round? I thought I had seen it in one direction.

I know that I have seen converter cables for Serial ATA, but can't remember which direction they went. I'll poke around to see if I can find the site.

Why not just buy/attach serial ATA drives to the the controller. They are almost at the same price levels as IDE. CompUSA runs a special almost monthly for 160 gig Seagate serial ATAs for around 120- 130 after rebates.

Thanks this was the device I was looking for, although at $25 for a convertor I am evaluting some other options.
