Post DirecTV and cable recording

I am trying to determine what I need to be able to record shows on DirecTV as well as a cable (I have basic basic cable for my local channels). I understand what I need to change the channels on my DirecTV receiver, but what about the cable? Is it possible to connect an S-Video from my DirecTV and a coax cable at the same time and record without any cable switching? It looks like the Hauppauge WinTV Theater has the best features.

Thanks,
Brian

Yep. check out my Help page for the details. It's just a matter of setting up TWo Video sources. One setup on SVIDEO and one setup to tuner.

I'm curious who will get the first PC card out to capture my DirecTV MPEG2 like my tivo does. What is this all about? (found it searching google)

"HIGH D E F I N I T I O N EXPERIENCE
The TL880 IC is a highly integrated All Format Digital TV decoder designed for the PC platform. It is the first IC product in the
PC industry to be compliant with all ATSC and ARIB Digital TV formats including high definition DTV resolutions for superior
video quality. The TL880 architecture supports multiple international standards including ATSC, the European DVB, the
Japanese ARIB standard, as well as proprietary standards such as DIRECTV®. The TL880 can decode a single HD program or
up to four SD programs simultaneously for advanced features such as multicasting. The on-chip display processor with its stateof-
the art filtering algorithms can up/down-convert any ATSC-format input and output in any common display resolution while
maintaining the high definition video quality. Additionally, the TL880 IC can capture decoded NTSC video and up-convert it to
HD video
formats for a richer viewing experience."

The problem is that your Direct TV reciever doesn't output uncompressed Mpeg2. The Tivo does it because it controls the hardware. Having a PC card that does it almost requires it to have the built in ability to decoded the Mpeg2 stream that comes from the satellite which in turn will make it a DirectTV Satellite Tuner. I'm not saying it's impossible but unlikely.

Pity you couldn't have found a brain on google.

Posting the same thing into three message threads is downright rude.

There are cards out there that can capture mpeg2 streams, for example from a DirectTV.

Look at AccessDTV, or the WinTV-HD from Hauppage.

These can also capture HDTV mpeg2 streams.
