IR Receiver, PC, and RS 2117

Is there an IR receiver and software that will allow me to use my RS 15-2117 remote to control my pc?

I have a computer that I will be usingly with beyond media only to serve as a media jukebox and fileserver. Can I hook on IR eye to this via usb, turn my remote to a given code, and program software on the computer to translate those recieved signals to events on my computer (i.e. channel up equals arrow up, play equals enter, etc.)?

If you use girder, you can in fact use any remote at all together with an IR receiver.

I use the USB UIRT, which is a great device well supported by the manufacturer.

$58 is a little steep for me on the USB UIRT. Twice as much as my universal remote. I'd like something in the low-budget area, but if I have to bite the bullet, so be it. I may just have to wait a couple months so that my budget catches up with my tastes. Thanks.

How about this, can I just use the little "eye" that comes with the pvr-250 to receive 15-2117 signals, then use girder to open apps, control winamp, etc?

Sorry for being a noob, I'd just try it out but the PVR I'm working on is at my folks place, I personally don't have one. That's the kind of good son I am, bought them one for christmas even though I can't really afford on for myself. Man, I'm a great kid!
