dvd+r or dvd-r?

Which format is more compatible with stand alone video dvd players? Not just the latest/newest models, but older ones also. Most people don't replace their DVD players very often..

Also - what's the advantage/disadvantage to each? I can find some older articles, but nothing recent...

I want to buy some media, but I want to buy the more compatible so that when I give copies to friends, it will have the best chance of playing on their stand alone players

Thanks

Steve

Check out this place: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

They have a compatibility list on the website I pasted here where you can see what DVD players are compatible with what. I read awhile back that the DVD+R was generally the best for compatibility with settop DVD players. So then I went and bought a DVD+R/RW burner. But most burners these days do both +/-R/RW.

In any case, my XBOX (my DVD player) plays my DVD+R's perfectly...once I figured out I needed NERO burning software to do it. It seems that the burning software you use also can make a difference.
