USB-UIRT Question

WIth BTV 3.x do I need Girder to run a USB UIRT ?
Along the same lines, can I rely on USB UIRT to do both blasting and remote work?

Thanks
Stuart

Well,

Ideally, there is "girder-like" code (not sure if they've liscensed it from Girder or just developed their own) built into the BTV Wizard to allow you to setup your USB-UIRT unit. Unfortunately, this "code" crashes every single time for me right now on 3.4 (1271 build). Not sure if you had a tuner that it would control by default without having to retrain the program (most of the low end DirecTV tuners are predefined), but mine is a Samsung SIR-TS160 HDTV DirecTV tuner, and it isn't already defined, so I have to have the wizard try to train the USB-UIRT for me..well, it asks you to press a bunch of buttons from your TUNER's remote for it to learn the channel buttons. About half way through the Wizard just locks for a couple seconds and then "BLIP"...it just disappears. No error message or anything (have done it well over 10 times now...including after now having completely reinstalled Windows XP Home CLEAN from scratch for the second time!!!).

Opened a support case for this, but the first thing BTV support did was try to blame the USB-UIRT dll drivers (forget that it is BTV's wizard that is crashing and Girder works just fine).

Samsung SIR-TS160 DirecTV HDTV tuner outputing to SVideo on PVR-250 and all output from the computer going to RGB input on a Mitsubishi 55" HDTV in 856x480. Combination optical input into sound card and stereo left/right into PVR-250. Still working on how to lay down AC-3 tracks from the optical input during capture.

No, you don't have to use Girder. Just choose the satellite in the list that is yours and it will work fine.

You assume the list has your satellite tuner. At least 3 of my tuners that I use for DirecTV are NOT in that list, and the Wizard crashes when trying to train it manually.

I use the USB-UIRT and Girder to control BeyoneTV with my remote. Their is a GML file that can be found in the knowledge base, just search for remote, which can be used within girder and provides a great starting point for learing all the necessary buttons on your remote to control BeyonTV. The UIRT will also blast to control the set top box, however I use an emitter plugged into the UIRT and this works very well. My box was amoung the prebuilt configuration in BeyondTV so that part was easy for me.
