CPU usage & No EPG recording

Hi all,

I'm a ShowShifter user for few weeks now...I just installed BTV and realy liked it's PVR - far better then ShwoShifter's.

But I have two questions, if I may...

1. CPU usage when using BTV reaches 90% and up! - On show shifter time shifting using DivX only 30/40% - What;s wrong?

2. I can NOT use the EPG (I'm Not in the US/Europe) - does it mean I can NOT record shows by entering channel and recording date/time/length?

Thanks,
OS.

For your CPU usage, need a little more info to tell if you that's normal. System Specs, what quality your recording in, is showsqueeze or transcoding running.

As for #2 you can do manual recordings just like a VCR, you just have to set them up from the web admin. Go to the record page then look for new recordings on the left hand side of the page. Click that and I think the rest will be self explanatory.

Few specs of my HTPC (Works very well with showshifter 3):

Pentium 4 cel. 2.4 mhz, 256mb ram, 120gb 8mb WD HD, TV card - no Hardware mpeg support. Nvidia 440mx TV out 64mb (connected only to my TV), Actisys ir transmitter (to my satelite set top box).

I've tried all the default mpeg modes - fair, good etc... CPU usage is about 90% - in lowest mode about 70-80% cpu usage.

I must say that the picture quality is realy uneceptable and the cpu usage is much too high.

BTW, the CPU usage is very high even with NO show shifting!

As for the manual recording - I hoped I could make it using the main GUI of the BTV - as I'm using a regular ir tv remote. Going into the WEB interface is not a solution...for me...

Thanks,
OS.

Your high CPU usage is probably due to the decoder your using, which unless you changed it is set to the default by SS. If you switched to the NVDVD decoder you will probably see a substantial decrease in CPU usage. You can change this in one of your settings menus in the FSUI. If you don’t already have it, you may have trouble getting it. I understand they are in the process of updating and have quit selling for now.

For now the only way to do manual recordings is from the Web admin. You realize you can get to the web admin from another computer on your network. This of coarse assumes you are on a network. I assume you occasionally must do things on this computer that requires a keyboard and/or mouse. SS was a little haphazard in their web admin vs FSUI interfaces IMO. There are somethings you can only do in the web admin and others that can only be done in the FSUI. It should have been one interface or the other allows everything, and the other could be a subset. The optimum of coarse would be they both have the same options.

Send a message via MSN to mickwall
I would have thought so, as long as he is an xmltv supported area.
