Beyond TV & Hauppage pvr250 - audio/video stutters

Hi,

There seems to be a few major flaws with Version 3.4.3, Build 1217. While the recording is ok, the watching livetv or a recorded program through the window/full screen stutters very badly. :-(

Since it records ok, (minus a scanning line at the top - we need the ability to over/underscan the recording)

Windows XP SP1 with Hauppage pvr250
Debian Linux using MythTV

When I view the live video stream using the WinTV software, it plays wonderfully. When I play recorded video with Windows Media Player, it plays wonderfully.

When I play live tv and recorded video with MythTV (Linux PVR software), it plays wonderfully.

When I attempt to watch live tv or recorded shows using the Snapstream Beyond TV Version 3.4.3, Build 1217, it stutters very badly. Average cpu utilization during playback 10%.

Looking through the forums shows that people seem to believe this stuttering is the result of bad hardware (Hauppage pvr 250, cpu, sound card, etc.) when this is not the case.

The root cause (without seeing the source) seems to be the result of a very small buffer cache used by the Version 3.4.3, Build 1217 software.

This appears to be the fault of the Beyond TV software.

Tested on a dual Pentium 4 with 2GB RAM and a single AMD Athlon 1900+ with 768MB RAM. So it is not a matter of horsepower.

here is a WORKAROUND:

In http://localhost:8129/settings.cgi?mode=interface

Make sure "Use True Full Screen" is enabled & set to 800x600 or below.

Note that this should only be viewed as a workaround and not a solution.

Jason
