Beyond TV and ReplayTV or Tivo

How can I use my ReplayTV to play movies recorded on my PC by Beyond TV. I don't want to watch it in my PC. I want to move movies to my ReplayTV and use ReplayTV to output to TV.

Is this possible? I don't have a dedicated PC near my TV.

I am new to this stuff.

I do not know anything about moving recorded programs to a replay TV.

But, are you aware that you can buy a video card for your PC that has television outputs (analog, S-Video, component, etc). Using one of these cards, you play your recorded shows directly from your computer to your TV.

For more info, go to google and search for...

"video card" "television output"

Of course getting the signal from the computer to the TV could be a problem since they are not together. But perhaps no harder than getting the program input to the computer.

There's a program to interface with your Replay TV called DVArchive. It allows you to extract mpegs from your Replay to you PC and it also emulates a Replay machine so you can play mpegs on your replay that are stored on your PC.

However, the mpegs utilized by Replay TV are not compatible with normal mpegs. In fact, from comments in the AVS forums it's likely to crash your Replay TV if you serve up a normal mpeg via streaming ( aka Beyond TV show). Someone was working on a program to convert regular mpegs to replay's special format, but I'm not sure how that is going, check the AVS forums or other Replay TV sites.

I went the other route, although I liked Replay TV I've had some reliability problems. I had to reformat the Replay drive twice. So, I built a Beyond TV machine, extracted all my mpegs from my replay tv, and sold it.

Many people have had success with using the Media MVP next to their TV if they can't place a PC there. I'm considering trying one out for another room in my house myself.
