Two soundcards - Record from one, play from the other
I've had BTV3 for a few months now and am totally loving it. :) But here's my problem.
I make music on my computer quite a bit, so I need to be able to use my sound-in for that. BTV needs a sound-in port as well to record sound. So I'm constantly switching back and forth between what cable is plugged in to the back of my computer and it's starting to get pretty annoying. In the meantime I've had a SBLIVE 5.1 card that I've been meaning to hook up to my system (which I built just a few months ago, and have just been using onboard sound as it's actually not that bad). So my powersupply died today and I had to get inside my comptuer anyways to replace that, so I plugged in the SBLIVE card as I've been meaning to do. What I want to accomplish is this: I want the SBLIVE card to be my soundout for everything, and also my sound-in for recording music. The only thing I want the onboard sound for is to record audio for BTV. I re-ran the setup wizard and it allows you to choose which soundcard you want. But you cant specify different ones for sound-in and sound-out. In the web configuration, under advanced settings it has more options for for your audio-in source and video-in source. But you cant specify anything with regards to OUT. It makes sense, I suppose... how many people would really want to record with a different soundcard than what they play it back with? Well, I know of at least one. :) But what I'm wondering is if anyone knows how to accomplish what I want, or is in a similar situation and has a good workaround or something along those lines. Thanks! |

Ok I got this figured out... I'm just posting what I did so if anyone else has this problem in the future hopefully this will be of help.
When you first go through the setup wizard, choose the soundcard that you want the audio to come OUT of. When it goes through its test to make sure you can hear something, you actually won't -- that's fine for the moment, because it's trying ot use that same card for audio in, meanwhile your audio cable is plugged into the other soundcard so thats why you hear nothing. After you are finished with the setup wizard, open up the web configuration, go to: Configure > Advanced > Video Sources > Edit Settings [for default "cable"] Then, change the audio IN to the soundcard you want to be recording the sound. Doing it this way, it will keep the original preference you set in the setup wizard for the audio OUT. They really should add a setting in there for audio out so it's easy to set this up. This was just a guess and I'm kinda surprised it worked. Hope that helps someone. :) |
