Go ahead and give some more details about your system, especially the motherboard, chipset and sound card/chipset.

I am assuming it's a driver problem either with your sound system or the 250 itself.

Another possibility is an IRQ confilct/sharing situation.

Just some ideas for starters

Some general troubleshooting ideas...

Make a 30-second recording.

Try playing it back in WMP, if no sound,
Burn it to CD, try another computer playing it back in WMP.

If you get sound in the second situation, then the PVR250 is fine, and its other conflicts on the system, if you get no sound in either situation then the problem includes the PVR250.

I dont know how it works with other video cards, but I know with Radeon card (I have a 9600), you have to plug an audio-out cable from the video card into your audio-in port on the soundcard. This is because your video card cannot record the audio, even though it comes in through the coax cable. It reroutes this duty to the soundcard.

Well since you said you're new to all this I figure it may be something you overlooked, because in normal TV world its not something you have to worry about.

Nah, the PVR250 is a hardware encoder, so it does the encoding both video and sound and passes it directly to the computer as a MPEG file, so you don't need an audio connection for that setup.

Although good guess, because had it been a software encoder that would have been my first thought also...

To burn the file, you need to locate, and burn it like you would any standard file...from windows explorer right click on the file and click send to and select a writable cd...pop in a cheap cdr burn it and try it on another computer.

If possible put both the mpeg and wmv file on the cd, although I don't think this will change things.

Ahhh, I see. I know nothing about hardware encoders as I've never had one. Although that would be nice to offload some of that processor crunch.... :)

What is your TV source?

If you are using a Cable Box or Sat Box then you need to hook up the audio to the PVR250 and not the line in on your sound card.

Ah, there seems to be your audio problem.

You need to use an audio cable (2 RCA plugs going into one 3.5mm stereo plug) and connect the RCA plugs into the audio out on the satellite box and connect the 3.5mm stereo plug into the "line in" on the 250 card, NOT your sound card's line in.

Try that and I'm sure that your sound problems will be cured.
