PVR-USB2 w/ Silver remote controlling cable box?

So, over the last few days i've been setting up a new (first) HTPC. Everything is working great, but now, i want to integrate my cable box into the whole system. Right now i have the analog cable running straight into the PVR. What i'm unclear about is whether or not I need to get the IR Blaster to achieve this.
I'm currently using the Hauppauge silver remote to change channels in Beyond TV. I do have a non-learning Sony universal remote, too, which i currently use to control most of my HT components (including the cable box).
Does BeyondTV have built-in functionality where i can connect my cable box to the PVR via normal audio/video(composite) cables?
What if i use Girder?

I want to be able to change channels on my cable box with one of these two remotes and also have Beyond TV be able to schedule recordings while tuned throguh the cable box.

I know this subject has been beat to death. I've gone through the archives to research this question and there really is a ton of info out there. I guess i'm just a little overwhelmed and don't know where to start. If someone could help me out by either giving me a quick how-to or pointing me to a good place to start to figure this out, i would be much obliged.

You will need something like an IR Blaster to get BTV to change your cable box for you.

I have a Motorola 2224 being controlled by girder through serial cable. What kind of box do you have?
