Cable Box Compatibility
Hi,
This isn't a direct BTV question, but it is directly related to my PVR setup.... I am thinking of adding a new tv and cable box to use with my new BTV system. I found the exact model cable box I have (General Instrument 2244) on eBay for around $10. It is labeled a Comcast digital cable box and i have Adelphia digital cable. My question is will I probably be able to use this box? Are cable boxes pretty much dummy devices, or are there specific settings that each company sets so you can only use it with their service without re-programming it? I'm hoping I can buy it on eBay instead of paying Adelphia $5/month to 'rent' one from them. Thanks for any input. |
