Feature?? Pain?? Inconveinence??

I ran into something I never realized today. If a show is recording , you can't goto the recorded menu and watch it from the beginning if it's still recording , that kinda sucks.

If your tray icon is running and recordning something , how do you open up fullscreen mode and watch the show that it is recording without it stopping recording it.. ?? --Josh

Fiancee malfunction: Upgrade or replace.

Actually if your default recording setting is .wmv then you can't watch and record the same file at the same time. (Timeshifting not possible with wmv)

Swicth over to mpeg recordings and check your fiancee..

I record in mpeg and watched Survivor from the recordings menu with probably a minute or so delay... I've never run into a problem not being able to watch anything whether it's old recordings or in process from the recordings screen.... It should have worked...

Means you have schedule to record all new episodes of this show, but for some reason it did want to record it. For reference if you see a marked out 'A' that means you set to record all episodes. And if either is not marked out that means it will/is recording that episode.

Simplist way to figure this out though:
Go here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\SnapStream\Beyond TV\log

Locate the log from the day Survivor aired, and post atleast one hour prior and one hour prior to when it was suppose to record, perhaps that will hint at what happen.

According to the log...
[2/12/2004 19:59:10] Show Monitor: found new show Survivor All-Stars-(Shark Attack)-2004-02-12-0.mpg in g:\tv shows.
[2/12/2004 20:45:03] TSSourcePlayer: Using MPEG demultiplexer

[2/12/2004 20:45:03] TSSourcePlayer: Connected to the VMR9.
[2/12/2004 21:01:01] Dispatcher stopped the recording: the recording has completed.
[2/12/2004 21:01:01] Stopped the MPEG-2 recording 'Survivor: All-Stars' successfully.

I suspect that at 08:44 your wife went over to use the box, because this is when the recording appear to have stopped and because at 08:45 it is clear that someone started playback of something, I suspect Survivor. The log should have had between 20:44 and 20:45 a message to the effect of Halting the recording engine, this would imply she hit stop. Since I do not see this message, I can for once conclude it was *possibly* not the wifes fault. Another thing that catches my eye is the recording started at 59 on the hour, not at 00. This to me says its one of those network tricks that they have been playing lately.

For now on you should be able to start shows from within the library without it stopping the recording, please post if you experience this problem again and the steps to reproduce it.

Also is this picture poor quality because of the way you saved it or you not running at 16bit or higher depth?

BTW I noticed you have a PVR250 and are using the standard decoder you will likely find a performance boost through this trick.

Best of luck,
-Brett

not a bad eye there but you didn't look close enough , hehe , that picture was taken via screen capture , and I was vnc'd into my htpc from work .. the image always looks krappy because they can't be pumping 10,000,000 colors through a network hehe.. but yah it looks alot better on the real screen , i'll check out the link thanks!!!

p.s. the timing i think it because of my 1 minute padding

OK bikr,

How did you get VNC to work with BTV? Many of us can't get it to work. Do you mind sharing with us which version of VNC you use and what your setting are?

Thanks,
Carlo

I use real vnc with these settings and it works fine (updates slow as hell and tends to peg the processor out on the btv box while connected but it works (client set to autoselect bitrate and compression format), the screen normally starts off all white then refreshes completely after about 2-3 seconds:

Hi, Cayers.

I also use VNC with BTV, and it works like a charm on a local LAN. The main thing is to use the RealVNC 4.0 beta, rather than other distros. The performance boost added in RealVNC 4.0 beta is tremendous compared to TightVNC, TridiaVNC, and Plain old VNC, which I used in the past. Subjectively, it seems to be 5-10 TIMES faster!

Also, VNC performance more than quadruples if the host screen is set to 16-bit color depth, rather than 32-bit. I am talking about the video card config, not any config in VNC itself. Unfortunately, this causes noticeable color quantization errors during video playback on my TV screen. For this reason, I frequently switch to 16-bit when using VNC, then swtich back to 32-bit to watch stuff.
