Client for watching streaming TV available

I got tired of the lousy web interface for watching streaming TV in BeyondTV. My parents watch the stream on their TV set, and the web interface can be pretty tricky to handle on a TV.

Therefore I have created a stand alone client for watching streaming TV. The client has a built in Media Player and can easily be switched to full screen by pressing Alt+F8. Also the client can have up to 10 favourite channels stored for easy access via buttons or via Alt+<number>.

The client can also be switched to “Remote mode” which means that you only see the favourite channels buttons and the client also keeps the stream alive. The actual TV is then watched in any media player desired.

I figured that someone else might have some use of this program so I made it available for download. The program requires .NET Framework 1.1 and Windows Media Player 9. Before using the client the ini-file has to be configured with “your settings”.

I you want to, try it out, and send your comments to btvclient@spray.se.

any special reason you didn't use alt-enter like every other player on the planet?

reynoldr: I will surely look into that, a download feature would be nice. I donät use myself so that's why it's not there. But we'll see what 1.1 can bring!

_Shorty: Since all shortcut keys of the client is responsive even if the program is not in focus I figured that Alt+Enter could itnerfer with another program if for example the Media Player was up front at the moment, hence the Alt+F8, but it's changeable for sure, I'll think about it.

britboy: There is no bookmark feature at all, the client is currently only for watching live TV at the present time, no pause or buffering available. But hey, it's version 1.0!

GOOD WORK

I just tested your app and it seems to work well

the devlopers better come out with somthing soon cause i can really get used to this app.

1 request

For the client to support the security feature ( username / password)

it seems if you have the security feature enabled then you can't change channels using your buttons (you have to go to the server webpage tab and change them there .......... but still better than what Snapstream offered (nothing)....

I will say it again (GOOD WORK)

Really great app!!! I hardly ever used the live web viewing (not very good) but your app is going to be running almost constantly! I greatly appreciate you sharing this! Not to "look a gift horse in the mouth" butttt... I run BTV3 on a DirecTV receiver and have the 10 favorites set and everything works great but I can't use the direct channel entry field or up/down scroll because it appears to be limited to channel 150 being the highest. DirecTV goes to channel 999 with most stuff in the 200 to 550 range. Regardless of that, again, thanks!

gadutchman: That was clearly a silly limitation to the program, a new version with the channel shifter limited to 999 is now available from the homepage: http://hem.bredband.net/b234883/btvclient/

Big-Red: I agree that security has to be supported by the client. I have started implementing it and the plan is to release a version with security support soon!

Short answer: No it won't... The only way I know to stream from a PVR250 is to use top100's GotTV. (http://myhtpc.net/pub/TV%20Plugin/Web/)

I have installed the client on my BeyondTV Server and left the streamServerAddress=localhost.

I changed one of the channels to 362 and TWC.

When I run the client it says, "connecting to media" and then "Ready", but no video even after clicking the TWC button.

My BeyoundTV Server is on 192.168.0.101.

What would I use on a client machine on the same lan for the streamServerAddress? 192.168.0.101 or 192.168.0.101:8080
