Faster Downloads???

I've been using BeyondTV for about a month and it's a great program, but I'd like to find a way to improve my download speeds because I'm often traveling. Currently I'm running Win2K Pro on my home machine with Snapstream and I travel with a XP laptop. I'm able to remotely record and replay files, but I find that streaming over the internet is very choppy, so I prefer to download the files - but my files only download at about 44 KB/sec no matter which hotel or office internet location that I try to download from. The speed seems to be the same if I download from the SnapStream menu (http?) or if I FTP from my home machine which is connected to a cable modem.

The system works great, but it takes me about 3.5 hours to download a 1 hour show using the default wmv resolution (530MB/hour). I tried the lower resoluton wmv files (80 MB/hour) but the sound and video quality wasn't very good.

Any ideas on how I can improve my file transfer speed?

well if you keep getting the same bitrate no mater what connectino you are attached from you might be hitting the capacity limit on your upload speed for the cable modem. while most cable modems can download at upwards of a few megabits per/sec most can only upload at a few hundred Kilobits/sec.

mine maxes out at about 32KB/s during uploads and most that ive seen (unless you have a reallly nice provider or are paying thru the ass) are between 20 and 60KB/s (note big b)

you should figure out what your cap is on uploads and if it is much more than 44KBs then I would suggest looking into download accelerator programs and you are going to get better download speeds off of an http server but im not sure if the BTV web server is optimized for handling more than one download/resuming
