Question Request for new features?

I was wondering about suggestions for new features in BTV-X?

I often find a movie that the description is "lacking" and would like to see a configurable "right click" interface in the "GUIDE" to something like GOOGLE or IMDB... You can search for movie titles at IMDB by using just the full URL with passed parameter. For example

http://www.imdb.com/Title?Star+Wars

This would enhance our ability to really build a nice Video Collection with lots of information...

Not sure this would work:

When you click the above link it opens your browser... but with BTV in full window mode, I am not sure you would even see the browser come up.
Then, even if you get the browser to have focus and be the foremost window for a while, now you have to navigate the browser. So you need your remote to control mouse movement, yet on my TV the browser screen is not readable... the you need to import data to BTV, etc...

See where I am going?

Another type of possible implementation, have a look at http://collectorz.com/

I use movie collectorz to catalog my movies: it gets info from various internet databases real well. I have been working on trying to use it through a 10 feet interface.

Maybe Beyond Media will help?

I took a look at the collectorz software and it looks pretty nifty, but I'm not interested in purchasing another product "just now".

I was specifically suggesting a link from the "GUIDE" or "Recorded" screen(s).

It would be quite simple to generate a call to your default browser pointing to your favorite movie info source. The config option would allow you to put a skeleton command with replaceable paramerts.

If you are in "full screen", a simple ATL+TAB will get you to the browser window where the detailed info on the movie in question would be displayed.

... But unreadable on most TVs I would say.
Focus issues are a lot more complicated than just a "simple Alt Tab" from what I have seen because it is difficult to know how many windows you have opened, so one Alt Tab may not be enough. Also BTV might regain focus if an event starts, etc...

If you are talking about a simple clickable link to open your browser from the computer, sure it will wok, but then all you've achieved is saved yourself a little typing. Not a bad start, but not exactly a very useful feature.

For it to be trully useful, the results should be accessible and visible/readable through the 10 feet interface.

I don't think from past posts that many people use the computer as their main screen. Many don't even have a monitor.

Meanwhile, and although not automatic, you can already put the description you get from imdb.com in the "description' field of the file using the web admin interface. it's a bit more work, but you only do it once for any movie.

You've made my point for me. It saves me some typing. I'm not using my computer to watch movies, only capture and burn them to DVD. Ideally, right-clicking the title from the "recorded" or "guide" section would be advantageous for me... saving me some keystrokes in this process would be great!

Indeed, I can (and do) already goto IMDB and gather info about the movie before I burn it to the DVD, but would like to have BTV-3 do the typing for me and just open the browser window to the information so I can just cut & page it into the comments
