Audio Lag when cutting commercials
Ok, this is really starting to annoy me...
I have been up and down these forums and tried many different ways of splicing out the commercials. Here is the low down. I dont want to DVD Author, just cut sections out (A-La commercials). I have tried TMPGEnc, FlaskMPEG, Wombles MPEG VCR, and even Premier. No matter what I do the audio is out of sync from the video. The closest I had gotten was with mpeg vcr. With womble I saw only about 1 second of delay in some places. Here are some of my specs: ASUS P4G8X, P4 2.6ghz ATI AIW9800 BTV 3.4 Build 899 |

I use womble and I never have any sync issues. It may be due to the fact that I use the Pvr 250 for encoding. I have heard issues with the AIW and sync probs.
One time I had a sync problem, but it was when I cut out the beginning and end of a show. Now I keep 3-5 frames at the beginning and end of the show. I have no idea if this is necessary or I am just crazy, but the one time I had problems is when I cut it out, so it is just a habit now. hope this helps shaneric1972 |

Do not know if it helps but I use Womble and it never lags. I record with a 250 also.

Welp, sorry to say but I made sure I left at least 3-5 seconds of the beginning and end I am still having sync problems.
It probably has something to do with the encoder/encoding settings with software vs. hardware. Is there anyone who is using software mpeg encoding at DVD HiRes that may have some insight? Thanks ahead of time ![]() Quote:

No Lag For Me
I use Womble and I record using an AIW 9700 and I have a H250. I have edited the commercials out of hundreds of MPEGs and never once experience a lag - if I don't go and start using the computer during the save. I have experienced problems when I start surfing or playing back other video or whatever during the save however.

With Program Stream it seems to help, but I am still seeing a very short delay after the cut.
I think I will just wait till I get a PVR250 ![]() Thanks for the help guys. Quote:

The Reason for A/V sync
The reason you get A/V sync issues is because of the way the MPEG is created. In a non-hardware encoding setup, the video stream is usually coming from one source and the audio is coming from another (usually your sound card) -- even the slightest changes in timing of these two streams being joined will created an MPEG with A/V issues that no program can fix (that I know of).
Typically, hardware encoders have both video and audio on the same card (source) and combine the two streams using the same process and timing. If the processor on the card slows down a bit, both the video and audio stream slow down at the same time. This is why folks with the PVR 350 and PVR 250 and other hardware-based MPEG files usually don't have problems with A/V sync -- unless they introduce it in post-processing -- but the source MPEG is usually free from issues.
