hauppauge remote conflicts with philips tv remote
Hi all,
I've finally got my BTV box up and running, albeit with composite tv-out (still working on getting the on-board s-video out to work -- its a pundit box). So, now that's I've moved the box next to my television to start enjoying digitally recorded TV, another problem has arisen. The hauppauge remote that comes with my PVR-350 (the gray remote) is interfering with the television remote on my philips TV! Every time I try to FF the volume gets louder. Or, when I try to navigate the menus, the TV channel changes off of the AV input channel!Does anyone know a fix for this? I have noticed that within the irremote.ini file there is a note that reads: "Note: 0 (classic remote) conflicts with standard "philips" TV remotes" Is there a solution? Thank you in advance, -- Michael

One more thing...
I noticed that there is an irremote.ini file in the C:/windows/ folder... there is another one in the .../FSMedia/images/ folder... Which one is used by BTV? Thanks again! -- Michael

Thanks, that clears a few things up. Another question...
I tried to use an old Sony universal remote, but the same thing happened. Is there any way I can continue to use the IR receiver that comes with the Hauppauge card, or is this the root of the problem? In other words, if another remote, like my universal, has to "talk" to the hauppauge ir receiver, my guess is that it would remain on the same "frequency" as the philips tv... is that right? (please excuse my incorrect IR terminology...) Thank you in advance, -- Michael

I believe it would still conflict, I rekon your only option is to go for another remote for your BTV, maybe wait for the FireFly remote!

You beat me to my NEXT question...
If I were to get a new remote, like the FireFly, I'll also need a new IR receiver. How can I guarantee that the new remote won't conflict with the Philips TV? Is there something specific I should be looking for? To all that have helped me out here... THANK YOU! -- Michael

Firefly is a RF remote that will come with its own receiver, as its NOT IR then it won't conflict with your standard remotes!

You can get a philips universal remote to work with the PVR cards reciever. You then can get girder to control beyond tv.
I have a 5 in one universal remote. I set it up to use philips vcr codes. (Don't remember wich one. ) I don't have a philips tv, so i don't know if any of the codes would conflict but I'd assume not since it's using a philips vcr code. This was an $8 fix to get me more buttons than the Hauppauge remote. Last edited by eDiveBuddy; 02-09-2004 at 11:46 PM. |
