Can't record back to back programs...

...when the programs are on different channels.

Theproblem arises when shows like CSI (9 PM Thurs) precedes a show like ER (10 PM Thurs). The problem is that the program guide thinks ER starts at 9:59 PM and causes a conflict with CSI.

Anyone know how to solve this deal breaker?

This is NBC's fault. ER really does start at 9:59. Friends starts at 7:59 and ends at 8:32. I believe they do it deliberately to piss off people with PVRs.

I think the next version of BTV will have more complex conflict resolution, and will allow you to specify that the conflicting show starts recording as soon as the first show has finished. Ok, so you'll miss one minute of ER, but it's better than missing the whole show.

I'm wondering if a little 3rd party program might fix this problem as a band-aid until 3.5 is released.

What would you guys think of a program that goes through the EPG data and changes times to whole increments (i.e. change a 7:59 to 8:00, etc). Then with the use of 2 or 3 minutes padding we should be ok.

Anyone interested in something like this?

I'm curious as to how this works. If I record a program from 8pm to 9pm with 2 minutes padding, and have another show set to record at 9pm with 2 minutes padding, isn't that a conflict?

if you want an easy fix instead of using .net recording jobs just use the webadmin and create manual recordings (old vcr style) for those timeslots, you will loose the repeat detection and info/description on them but it would let you capture them more easily.

Thanks for the web admin idea!

I knew there had to be a way to force the issue. I'm new at this so I can use all the help I can get.

So instead of solving the problem, we are just placing a bandaid over it

Its funny NBC is doing this, I thought they were main supporter of TiVO at one time...

If the show really starts one minute early then multi-tuner is the only way to get a complete recording of the show if you want to do back to back recordings. So modifying the EPG will allow the recordings (witch is better than nothing right now) but multi-tuner will be the real fix.

Or...

If the lower priority show comes on at 9:30 - 10:00 and the higher priority show comes on at 9:59 - 11:00, instead of only recording the higher priority show it could also record up until that show the lower priority show (ie: 9:30 - 9:59)

OR

We could just have a bandaid that goes through and changes all of the guide to :59 instead of :00. Because honestly, how many shows aren't credits/commercials by :59 anyways. That way, you'd have a minute of PRE padding built in anyways, and as long as you didn't have back to back, you could use padding to catch anything you would have missed.

You can do this across all stations by using padding. But I find several of my shows to miss the last punchline if this happens...

If you have padding set to 2 minutes, does BTV record the second show or does it still mis it?
