BTV Player I made

Here is a little app I made for myself because I wanted smartchapter ability on my "Main" computer. Download it here.

http://www.whittey.com/BTV3/modules....download&cid=1

If have any problems with it can post on messageboard here or over at http://whittey.com/BTV3/BTV3Setup.exe

Read Readme.txt for info on how to import the snapstream show list. I'm working on a little client server app right now to handle this. BeyondTV3 stores file in a hidden folder that is unable to be viewed as a share so have to manual copy file now.

Without me actually having to download and run your program, what is your program supposed to do?

Also I think you pasted the wrong link to your message board.

IT can read info in from BeyondTV file and generates a list of files.
Also has ability to play videos and will use snartchapters that beyondTV generates so you can navigate the video files. You can also add or add edit/delete the chapters that Beyond TV makes.
and here is a direct link to the file

cool little app, just a few tweaks needed:

one: need a hotkey for the buttons in the program. That way, while in fullscreen, you can go to the next chapter, go foward a few seconds, etc...

two: need a delete function so we can delete the shows we just watched while in the program.

Three: might want to set up a menu system that includes folders preset. Like Snapstream folders, we can set this is folder A, folder B, etc. Then, you give us a menu based on those folders.

I also got a runtime error when I selected Set Options. Apparently you can send images to an online print service with it. Is this supposed to happen?

Another thing is that the "Now playing" doesn't actually say what's playing.

Again, good start, just need some fixes and additions.

There are hotkeys set up. have to enable them in options or just edit Settings.ini and set usehotkeys =1 in readme.txt is list of hotkeys set. I'll add delete function. The option error has been fixed. Problem was was not checking for SlaveStoreCollection.XML
and if it is not there it was causing the error. With now playing function it all relies on the SlaveStoreCollection.XML file being copied over to directory. I am making a small little app that will update this for you when ever Beyond TV changes it. As of now will have to copy it over manually.
New EXE file

The Main setup up top has been fixed with new exe also.

PLus sloanja can explain point number 3 a bit more. Not excatly sure what you are asking for.

ok, like the menu discussed for BTV3 itself is what i'd like to see..

basically, you'd open up the program the first time, then key in all the folders you'd like the client to see.

Then, it builds a menu from that.

FolderA
FolderB
FolderC
(etc.)
Click on one, say folderA, then its contents gets displayed in a submenu to be clicked on, which then runs the show.

I just copied the xml file you told me from my BTV computer to my computer. I believe this is the menu I was wanting, but didn't know i had to copy the xml file to the folder. Without editing the xml file, I cannot click on a show to play.

I edited the file to reflect the path change, and it opens the menu and the file exactly like it should and how i wanted as above... good work.

Just a few notes:
And shouldn't the hotkeys be enabled by default, or at least tell people how to turn them on in the help window?

I'm also having some issues when I put the program to maximized, instead of the normal window. It comes up with an error run time 3021, "either bof or eof is true, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a record." This was when the XML file was unedited. Once i edited the file, it went away.

You should mention the XML file in program to be copied to the directory, or at least make the path variable so that you can open it remotely. (ask which machine the files is on, and it will go out and get the file from that machine, since you already know the path it is most likely on such as \\computername\c$\applic...

OR you can provide a BLANK xml file that we can edit ourselves.

The use of the hotkeys prevents typing in another program at the same time. You may want to make the users aware of this, or provide a fix.

I found you need to run the setup from the first of the post then replace the exe from 'C:\Program Files\BTV3Client' with the one in the zip file.

I did get an error on MSXML5.DLL did not register correctly when I ran the setup.

This seems like it'll be a great tool if I can get it working =(

I can play video, tried adding a start and end chapter marking, got a red line under the video showing the new chapter, but when I click "add chapter" it doesn't add it. I opened "edit chapters" and the new chapter doesn't get added.
What am I doing wrong?

There's some other more minor things, if you are thinking about improvements:

The progress bar doesn't get updated except when playing. FF and REW don't show any movement on the progress bar, even though the program is being skipped ahead and back. There's also no change to the video while FF or REW, but I imagine that can be tough to code.
When you press "Stop" the progress bar doesn't go back to the start.

Nothing inside the window resizes itself. All the dialogs and windows are resizable, but the menus, video window, tables, etc. don't get resized. Many of them don't fit in the window without scrolling, so it would be nice to be able to resize the window and have the controls resize as well.

Tooltips are from a different window likely a pictures folder task menu - what they say has nothing to do with the program. For example - The tooltip for "Play" says "arranges all the pictures in this folder as a slideshow", the one for "Save Chapter file" says "Starts the online ordering print wizard, which helps you order prints of your digital pictures". Some are correct - Help, Exit, Skip Forwards, Skip Backwards...

Thanks!

Hi, Confused.

Would it be possible to share your source code for BTV3Client?

I have written a perl script called "Cutads" that uses asfcut to remove commercials based on SmartChapter .xml files (see this thread: http://discuss2.snapstream.com/vb/sh...threadid=11977)

My problem is that, after editing the video file, Beyond TV forgets the episode description and all the other meta-data that goes with it. I am thinking that I need to copy this information into some of BTV's ...Collection.xml files.

If this is so, your source may provide insights on doing this so I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Any thoughts?

Nice program. I tried using it to edit the chapters of some recordings. It is very hard to find a good location to start the chapter, since it isn't frame by frame progression. It would definately be cool to be able to use this util to edit chapters before running that cutads script I have been hearing about.

Feature Request: Functionality to go frame by frame or at least change the time jump variable from an int to a float. (allowing small fractions of a second)

A really nice method is used by TMPGEnc's DVD authoring tool... It shows several frames at a time in a 'filmstrip' configuration so you can see what's coming next. You can see what I mean here. To my mind, that is ideal.
