Streaming Live TV question

I have an ATI TV Wonder Pro card and Beyond 3.4 Trial.

When I try to stream live TV the CPU usage goes to 100% and the video on the client is VERY choppy. Why is this?

When watching Live TV my CPU usage is about 80% and streaming recorded shows uses almost now CPU so why would streaming Live use > 100%?

Would this get better if I bought a PVR 250 card?

What quality are you streaming at? And what are the specs on the system you are using?

You can't currently stream with a PVR-250 card, as it outputs a MPEG2 stream that would need to be decoded first, then re-encoded for streaming, so even more CPU than a non-hardware encoding card.

MY PC is a 1.7GHz P4 with an nVidia card and I have a wired 100MB LAN. I am trying to stream at best which is "only" 2.37 Mbps so the network speed shouldn't be an issue. I guess I could try reducing the quality, but that would be a bit of a pain.

My experience is entirely with Athlon CPU's but I suspect this is a CPU issue

On a clean install, dedicated machine, I can stream at 2748000 (custom setting) and getting about 90% CPU utilization on an Athlon 2.5 Barton - resolution is 640x480
"Best" shows up at 2428016 VBR, which is slower than above

However I found a non-Barton 2.4 to be unable to handle the "Best" setting

So I suspect this is a CPU issue given your 1.7P4
