2 boxes

Hey,

Right now I have SS running on a pretty beefy box with 4 HD's and a bunch of fans all over the place to keep it cool.

This makes for a pretty noisy machine.

My plan is to have the main SS box in my office, and have other playback boxes in each area (ie living room etc).

I have a PVR-250 in the main box.

I'm thinking that this setup would not be possible to watch live TV, because this would involve streaming from the main box to the playback box. Am I correct in this assumption?

Anyone else run a similiar setup? Would I also have to purchase another copy of SS?

I have been playing around with a setup similar to the one you describe, and as far as I know you cannot watch live tv (or a recording in progress) using btv alone.

Also, legally I think you do need to buy multiple product keys if you want to use btv on multiple pc’s.

PVR 250 = Hardware encoder of course as you know = no streaming. So you're going to have to change something to make it work.

Either change / add a tuner card you can stream with and/or change the distribution method.

My setup has the main computer in the office but I have a AIW card so I can stream over the network (in my case, wireless).
But for Tv viewing on TV I use normal cable distribution via a modulator. Cheap and efficient. Don't have to buy/biuld a separate computer per room.

You don't need BTV to receive streams, so in your scenario where I assume your "playback boxes" would not have PVR functions (record, live Tv etc...) you don't need separate BTV purchases.

I hope this helps;
Eric

Well the playback boxes would need PVR capabilities.

I'd like to schedule recordings, FF etc etc from this box but have the recordings etc be on the main box.

Looks like I'm up that famous creek without a paddle if I use a PVR-250.
