Add my own channels

Hey,

I'm using bell expressvu, and it doesn't have the movie channels in the guide.

I was wonder if it's possible for me to just put a dummy record in the EPG database just to get that channel to show up? Is the local database like an Access database or something that I can ODBC to?

I'm thinking of writing a utility that will screen capture my actual BEV listing, then use PHP to interpret the image to text then take that text and import it into the EPG. This way Canadian users can have movie (and PPV) listings.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Brad

Zap2it probably provides listings for your movie channels (it does for my Rogers movie channels), and a few small changes to the xmltv importer will make this easily doable. Visit www.zap2it.com and check to see if the guide there provides data for the channels you're missing.

Let me know if you're interested in playing with this, and I can work on a tweaked build of the xmltv importer that can extend the contents of your guide data.

If the channel data that you're looking for isn't available at zap2it, then we can play with a manual process for entering the data, and having the importer provide that data for you.

Yeah, originally when I was using myth tv, i was using the zap2it guide with xmltv.

Unfortunatly they do not provide the data their, nor is it on bell's website.

The only way I can see doing it is by capturing the 'real' guide off my expressvu, then using PHP (or whatever language) to render that graphic into a textual format.

Do you know how I go about putting that info into the EPG database?

Thanks,
Brad

If you can get the data, then the xmltv importer can get the data into the database (with a couple changes so that it doesn't drop the existing guide data as it does today).

The changes on my end to the importer are quite small, and won't take alot of work - most of it will be providing a non-confusing gui for configuring the importer for this purpose.

PM me if you're interested in pursuing this, and I can give you the details on the data format that would make this the easiest.
