Xmltv

My xmltv source currently supplies 4 days of info. At the moment I wait until it has run out and then run my update batch file.

Is there a switch to download a specific dates data and add it ?

Then I could have it as a daily scheduled event and my tv planner would never be empty

Currently the import doesn't allow you to append data into the database. It requires that existing data be cleared first. But you probably don't really need to be able to append data, unless it takes a very long time for your importer to grab its 4 days worth of your data.

You don't need to wait until your guide is empty before you run an update. Instead, you can set your batch file to run every night, grabbing 4 days worth of programming and then importing it.

Are there any limitations on when to run the updates, I seem to remember doing it once and it losing the data for the rest of that current day ?

Is it ok to update with snapstream running, transcoding and recording ?

There aren't any real limitations on when to run the updates. The experience you had where an update lost a day's data was likely caused by running an import against an incomplete or missing xmltv data file. Prior to v1.15 of the importer, the first thing that happened when an import started was that the epg data in snapstream was dumped. Obviously, this isn't very smart. If no xmltv data is present (or the file is invalid) you've just dumped all of that useful data! With v.1.15 and later, the existing data isn't dropped until the xmltv datafile has been inspected to be valid.

All should run fine while snapstream is running. No need to shut snapstream down. The only problem you could run into is that the importer does require some CPU while populating the EPG database, and this could cause stutters during playback. I have my imports scheduled to run every night at 4am.

You can run it while snapstream is running but snapstream will have to be restarted in order for it to see the updated database. So if you ran it and never restarted snapstream, it would appear to have erased the current data. I set up a batch file to shutdown snapstream (wtlpvsapp.exe /quit) then run xmltv, then run importer, then restart snapstream. Then use task scheduler to schedule it.

Restarting snapstream isn't necesarry. You might have to page up and down in the epg for it to refresh your data, but I don't restart it, and always find the new guide data available.

My snapstream instance usually has an uptime of 20 to 30 days. I only restart to install drivers or new software.
