Motorola Set Top Box Users - audio cabling config question

Hi All,

I have a DCT22xx Motorola Digital Cable STB. I am using it with Shaw Cable in Vancouver, Canada.

Although I am still building / researching my HTPC (and very much so a n00b to all this) the config will be something along the lines of:
- Radeon 9600 AIW
- PVR-250
- Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS conencted to Kenwood Receiver via optical out

However, one problem is that when I am connected from the STB to my receiver today via SPDIF from the Motorola box, I only get audio when digital audio signals are present. I can't hear any audio for regular analog channels, and have to use the TV speakers for that.

There is also a regular Red & White RCA type Audio Out from the STB. This gets analog audio, but it is connectd to a different line in on the receiver, making it a pita to use (because you have to change audio sources with the channel changes).

I am hoping to reduce / eliminate these sort of pita issues with an HTPC set up (and no doubt introduce new ones hehe).

I am wondering how anyone else with a similar setup has this configured?

Any help much appreciated.

I am currently away from my machine so I can not verify this exactly but wanted to give you a head start:

I have a Audigy 2 Platium, and am using both the digital out and headphone (analog) out on the system. To get this to work at the same time, you must have the Audigy 2 software configured for digital speakers, then under Windows volume Control (Start->Settings->Sound) Click on the the Advance properties and unclick the box 'Digital Out only'

See if that helps, or is this not even the problem you are describing. Oh well, I am sleepy been up forever.
