Question Controlling Digital Cable Box via PC

Hi all

I have been reading all evening and discovered that using a IR Blaster I can operate my Scientific Atlanta Cable box and change its channels from my PC from a remote location.

Is this correct?

I have been reading a lot of threads about the subject and wonder if someone could please give it to me straight and tell me how I exactly go about doing this?

I am using a WinTV card on my PC and the latest SS software, at the moment I am using the basic cable tv package which is anolgue.

Thank you

Kruger

I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250 and digital cable. I simply ordered the IR200L from SS, plugged it into COM1, went through the install program or SS, taught it the digit buttons 0-9, and pointed it at my cable box. Everything works fine. I get full digital cable, with only a few second delay when changing channels.

Certain Cable boxes can not be controlled directly by SS. Some people use HERemote and/or Girder to control their cable boxes. I personally didn't have any problem having SS control mine directly, and didn't need any additional software.

Check this thread for more info and see if you can find your specific box listed and what people had to do.
